To Kuwait University Faculty of Science Nanoscopy Science Center Users

The NSC at Kuwait University(Nanoscopy Science Center-NSC), Faculty of science welcomes all its users to the newly updated website as per latest technology.

The Nanoscopy Science Center (NSC) at Kuwait University, Faculty of Science is the largest and most comprehensive facility of its type in Kuwait and one of the best in the region. It was established in 1976 but on the 2nd of August 1990, the center was completely damaged by the Iraqi invasion. After the liberation of Kuwait, the center was re-established again.Currently the center has expanded its faculty by three new microscopes i.e. Variable Pressure Field Emission SEM, Atomic Force Microscope, (AFM/SPM) and Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope. Besides sample imaging and analysis, NSC aslo provides training and workshops on related topics. • Student from Secondary School visited Electron Microscopy Unit last semester, 2010-2011.

    • The EMU participated in the 8th open day of the faculty of science that was held from 14th to 15th of March. Photo cards were prepared as greeting gift for the faculty members and visitors, each card represented one kind of microscope and some selective images acquired with this equipment by different users. The activities of the unit were demonstrated as a slide show on a computer screen, and some biological samples sections were displayed by the digital light microscope (coolscope).

    SEMINAR IN

    Serial Block Face Imaging SEM

    For Biological Structure

    By: Venkatram Dattu

AbstractAn alternative to the traditional Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) based serial –section imaging of the biological structures (which involves time consuming, precise and manual repetitive sectioning ) and do 3D re-construction of these serial sections, for large volumes , is the serial block-face imaging Scanning Electron Microscope (SBF SEM) technique. This SBF-SEM technique, involves automated sectioning by a microtome fitted inside the SEM, collection of serial images from the embedded sample, (image capture) using Backscatter detector and 3D re-construction of the data. Case studies will be presented.
